This 44-acre park has a long interesting history as a destination for Chicagoans as a nature resort and amusement park. Since 1972 this parcel has been a designated Illinois Nature Preserve. The upper portion of the park has a rare grouping of White Cedar trees established in a fen environment. The area is enjoyed by hikers on the trails and picnickers at one of the two permitted picnic shelters. A playground and well maintained baseball field complex are also major attractions to the upper portion of the park. The riverfront property includes a fishing area, nature trails, the Fox River Bike Path and parking for users.
Trout park has one rentable shelter, located near the Route 25 entrance, which holds approx. 100 people. This shelter is equipped with electricity. To rent this shelter, visit the Main Courtesy Desk at The Centre of Elgin.
