The City of Elgin, United Way of Elgin, KaBOOM! and Discover invite the residents of Elgin to help celebrate the new playground at Wright Park by attending a play day and playground dedication on Saturday, October 6, from 10:00 am to noon. The playground was built in one day on Friday, September 28 by over 500 volunteers from the community and Discover.
The new playground will provide hundreds of children in the Elgin community with a safe place to play. Children from nearby Huff School helped design the playground by identifying their favorite playground features. Research has shown that today’s kids spend less time playing outside than any previous generation in part because only 1-in-5 children live within walking distance of a park or playground. The playground at Wright Park is the 18th built by KaBOOM! and Discover, and is one of more than 150 playground builds KaBOOM! will lead across the country in 2012 in an effort to provide a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
Wright Park is located on Elgin’s southeast side, at 676 Wright Avenue. A formal dedication and ribbon cutting will take place at 10:30 a.m.on Saturday, October 6. Families are encouraged to come out and try the new playground and enjoy refreshments.
