[ARCHIVED] Image Awards Recognizes Efforts to Enhance Community

The City’s Image Advisory Commission will host its 20th annual Image Awards ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 15 in the Heritage Ballroom at the Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin.

This year 18 professionals, volunteers, projects and organizations have been nominated for helping improve the image of the City in 2011. They are: Dave Metzger, Tim Solarz, Warren Mogler, Administer Justice, Klein’s Farms and Garden Markets, Rediscover Records, Toom Toom Thai, Spring Hill Gymnastics, Elgin Technology Center, American Association of University Women, Centro de Informacion, Strawberry Festival of Bethlehem, Year in Motion, Freddrick Wimms and Luis Gutierrez, Frank Scheid, Julie Janik, Jack and Marlene Shales, and Leo Nelson.

The Image Awards have annually recognized the efforts of individuals, local organizations, civic groups and businesses who work have significantly improved the image of Elgin. Nominees and winners alike represent a variety of community projects that have included community projects, special events, cultural programs and numerous volunteer and business initiatives. Nominations are submitted by the public and the top image-enhancers are selected by the Image Advisory Commission members.

The Image Commission is comprised of eight volunteers appointed by the City Council and is currently chaired by Tricia Dieringer. The Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of every month at Elgin City Hall, 150 Dexter Court, with public invited to attend.
