Elgin residents interested in receiving information about city-related emergencies are encouraged to register their address and telephone number with the city by clicking here.
Residents using cellular phones or VoIP phones as their primary number or individuals with unlisted phone numbers are particularly encouraged to register since those numbers are not in any public database. Additionally, businesses and individuals who have moved within the past year should also register. Persons with landlines and published telephone numbers are already listed in the system, however, to receive an email or message on a cell phone, registration is needed.
The city contracts with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRed high-speed notification process. CodeRED requires street addresses to ensure emergency alert calls are received by the proper individuals in a given situation. Cell phones must also have an associated street address to provide relevant messages.
The system is secure and the information placed in the database will be used only for emergency situations.
