The Elgin Cyclones Swim Team recently hosted the first of what is planned as an annual event — the Blizzard Blast IMX Challenge at The Centre of Elgin. The meet featured 445 swimmers from across the area swimming in 70 events based on age.
The Lyons Swim Club won the meet with 4,158 points, just ahead of the Elgin Cyclones, who scored 4,089 points for second place. The meet’s highlight was the IM Extreme Challenge, a relatively new meet format designed to encourage swimmers to compete in multiple events. It was one of the first IMX meets in the state.
Cyclones swimmers who won their respective age groups were Nina Mollin, Jack Wanless, Jenny Tokarz, Gabrielle Del Rosario, Melinda Levandowski, Teegan Cook, Meg Herrara, Alex Le, Victoria Kruzel, Garrett Clausen, Maeve Swinehart, Tyler Sesvold, Mackenna Dunn, Weston Credit, Olivia Cacciatore and Nick Le. The Blizzard Blast helped to position the Cyclones as one of the area’s top swim clubs and served as a Cyclones fundraiser. The Cyclones is a year-round Elgin Parks and Recreation Department swim program. To learn more, visit www.elgincyclones.com.
