[ARCHIVED] Elgin’s 27th MLK Humanitarian Award Winners Announced

The Elgin Human Relations Commission, along with the Dr. King J Celebration Committee, have announced the winners of the 2012 Humanitarian Awards, which will be presented during the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, January 14. Humanitarian Awards will be presented to three recipients this year: John Dalton, the YWCA of Elgin and LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens) Local Council #5236.

Mr. Dalton will be recognized for his outstanding advocacy and civil rights work on behalf of the LBGT community and as co-founder and past chair of SOAP (Speak Out Against Prejudice). The YWCA will be recognized for the organization’s long standing history of service and their many programs that empower and support women and families and that foster diversity and equality among many disenfranchised community groups. LULAC #5236 will be honored for its tremendous strides in improving the lives of local Latinos and its collaboration with other organ-izations to build strong bridges among the various ethnic and racial groups in Elgin.

Tickets for the Prayer Breakfast are $15.00 and can be obtained online Click Here or by calling (847) 931-5667. The Prayer Breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m. The Heritage Ballroom is located at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way in Elgin. Free parking is available.
