[ARCHIVED] Thanksgiving Solid Waste and Leaf Collection Schedule

The City of Elgin would like to remind residents that due to the Thanksgiving holiday, solid waste collection will be shifted from Thursday, November 24th to Friday, November 25th. Solid waste that is normally picked up on Friday will be picked up on Saturday, November 26th. Items should be placed on the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. to facilitate the trash pickup.

Fall Leaf Bag Collection

Leaf collection schedules will be adjusted during the Thanksgiving week. Leaf bags will continue to be picked up on resident’s trash day. Leaf bags that would normally be picked up picked on Thursday, November 24th will be picked up on to Friday, November 25th. Leaf bags that are normally picked up on Friday will be picked up on Saturday, November 26th. Friday, December 2nd is the end of leaf bag collection.

Rake Out Areas

In a continued effort to reduce overtime costs, Public Works staff will be spending Thursday November 24th and Friday November 25th at home with their families. Leaf collection will resume on a normal schedule Monday, November 28th. Thanksgiving Day’s leaf collection will take place on Monday, November 28th and Tuesday, November 29th. Leaves will also be collected during the regular schedule on Thursday to make certain that the Thursday collection area has received full benefit of the program.

Residents are reminded that Friday, December 2nd is the end of fall leaf collection. Residents are encouraged not to park on the street during the day hours for the next two weeks. This will give Public Works crews the opportunity to sweep all city streets prior to snow fall.
