[ARCHIVED] Elgin Fire Department Encourages Residents to Be Aware of West Nile Illness

While it’s late in the season, Kane County Health Department is reporting its first case of West Nile virus.

Apparently a 63-year old woman from St. Charles reported feeling ill in the middle of September. She was formally diagnosed with the disease late last week.

West Nile Virus symptoms are generally mild and include fever, headache and body aches, but serious illness, such as encephalitis and meningitis are possible.

“If residents have experienced fever, headache or body aches for any period of time, they are encouraged to see their health care professional,” said Elgin Fire Chief John Fahy.
