The Family Service Association of Greater Elgin Area recently honored the City of Elgin Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Scholarship Fund.
The Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund received the “Friend of the Family Award” for demonstrated support going above and beyond to strengthen and preserve Elgin-area families.
“We are very proud of this award and glad to played a small part in making Elgin a great place to live and raise a family,” said Maria Cumpata, the department’s superintendent of recreation and facilities. Each year the scholarship fund gives out about $35,000 to families who cannot afford to pay for their children’s participation in city-sponsored recreation programs.
“We could not provide these funds if it were not for the generosity of individuals and businesses in Elgin,” Cumpata said.
The next Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund fundraiser is the Team Challenge on Nov. 11 at The Centre of Elgin. There is still time for teams and sponsors to register for this event by contacting Liz Langton at 1-847-531-7018.
