[ARCHIVED] Public Encouraged to Know Their Neighborhood and Report Suspicious Activity

Elgin residents are encouraged to learn about their neighborhoods’ daily activity and report any suspicious action to the Elgin Police Department.

“Many times people don’t know who their neighbors are or whether someone belongs in that particular neighborhood,” said Elgin Detective Carla Carter. “Residents should spend some time learning what daily activity is for their area and who belongs where. Sometimes a resident is unaware that a registered sex offender may live in a neighborhood.”

Carter said that residents can go to the Illinois Sex Offenders website at http://www.isp.state.il.us/sor/ to learn about possible offenders in their neighborhoods and the restrictions on those offenders that are meant to protect the public.

“Residents should always be aware of their surroundings,” said Carter. “If they witness something suspicious, it would be better to call the police and ensure everything is okay than have something happen.”

In any emergency, residents are encouraged to call emergency communications at 911.
