[ARCHIVED] National Night Out Block-Party Celebrations Scheduled for Nearly 30 Neighborhoods

National Night Out Block Party celebrations will take place in nearly 30 neighborhoods throughout Elgin on Tuesday, Aug. 2 as residents seek to promote neighborhood spirit and community-police partnerships.

“National Night Out is a nation-wide program that fosters neighborhood spirit while promoting community and police partnerships,” said Elgin’s Crime Prevention Specialist Cherie Aschenbrenner. “Locally, the night also helps cultivate awareness about anticrime initiatives in Elgin.”

City officials will visit all registered block parties. Times vary depending on the neighborhood organizing, but most will start between 6 and 7 p.m. with nearly all ending around 8:30 p.m.

Most block parties are open only to residents of a particular neighborhood but community members wanting to attend a National Night Out celebration can attend Resident Officer of Elgin (ROPE) officer parties at:

Drake Field
701 Hastings
Elgin
6-8:30 p.m.

Or
Sheridan School
510 Franklin
Elgin
