ComEd estimates that there are about 5,200 people in Elgin without power after a severe storm blew through the Chicago region yesterday morning at around 8 a.m. The storm downed trees and power lines causing power outages throughout the area.
ComEd officials estimate that about 90% of Elgin customers will have power restored by midday Thursday, July 14, however they emphasize that the restoration time is only an estimate and that it will take a few days to restore all services.
Emergency communications said that it received about 75 storm-related calls. Elgin’s Police, Fire, Forestry and Public Works Departments along with EPD’s Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) all worked to assist in securing areas with downed wires and storm debris. Currently Elgin has only one downed wire on North Porter Street.
Elgin Public Works Department officials believe the damage was minimal. Tree branches and debris have all been removed from City streets.
