Should there be a need, the backup cooling center is the Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat watch and predicts oppressively hot weather for today.

Residents planning out being outdoors are encouraged to dress in light colored- clothing and drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic fluids. Experts also recommend limiting exposure to the sun and spend some time cooling off in air-conditioned places.
