Elgin’s Fire Department will be clearing and marking the location of fire hydrants over the next several days to ensure firefighters can easily find and access them in an emergency.
“The fire department along with Elgin Public Works will be digging out neighborhood fire hydrants but the community’s assistance would be welcomed,” said Elgin Fire Chief John Fahy. “We’ll be marking a hydrant’s location with florescent-colored wood lath.”
If residents see these colored wood strips, they are encouraged to assist firefighters in shoveling out hydrants to ensure they are accessible from the street.
“Working together we can all ensure the safety of our neighborhoods,” said Fahy.
