Citizens of Elgin, a statement from Metra’s contractor, Impark, concerning their snow removal efforts at their three Elgin train stations is provided below:
“The unprecedented snow storm affecting the Chicago Metro area on Wednesday impacted the parking facilities serving the Metra Rail system. While snow was quickly cleared from the majority of the 35 Metra Rail parking facilities operated by Impark, snow and wind conditions created drifts in four parking lots that were beyond the capabilities of even Impark’s heaviest snow clearing equipment. The four affected lots are Elgin, Big Timber, Roselle and National.
Impark engaged contractors to clear the snow in these four parking lots, but due to the current demand for such resources, the lots could not be cleared prior to the morning commute. Snow clearing is ongoing throughout today, working around parked vehicles, and will be completed when the lots empty later this evening. Impark will have personnel in the lots by 4:00pm to assist any customers who encounter difficulties exiting the lots.
Impark sincerely regrets the inconvenience to customers at these four parking facilities, and as a gesture of apology, will offer free parking at the Elgin, Big Timber, Roselle and National parking lots on Friday February 4th.”
The City of Elgin has contacted Metra to convey its interest in assisting Metra with snow removal from its parking lots in the future.
