[ARCHIVED] Unity Park Grand Opening

Residents are invited to participate in the grand opening of the City’s newest park, Unity Park, located at Illinois and Hammond Streets on the city’s southeast side. The event will be held on October 16 from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Unity Park has a nature-theme play adventure course which is unique in our park system. Because of the small neighborhood park’s location across from both Kane County and Cook County Forest Preserve properties, some of park elements have been designed with nature in mind. A permanent educational three-paneled display of local wildlife and plants, as well as a paved plaza with imprints of animal tracks and plant leaves are features of this park. The State of Illinois provided 50% of the funding for this much-needed park in a neighborhood that has never had such a place within walking distance.

A light lunch of hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served by the ECN, Elgin Community Network volunteers. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at noon. Neighbors are encouraged to partake in a game of bags, ladder toss, and other activities. All are encouraged to bike or walk to the event in order to be eligible for raffle prizes.
