After 24 years with the Elgin Fire Department and over 50 years in fire service, Fire Chief John E. Henrici has announced his retirement. Henrici will retire on November 28th.
“Jack has been a great asset to the Community and the organization,” Stegall commented. “He will be greatly missed.”
Henrici was named Elgin’s fire chief in 1986 and served for 17 years until his first retirement in 2003. Throughout his retirement, Henrici was tapped to serve as interim fire director for a host of different cities throughout the state – the most recent being for the Homewood, IL area. He returned to Elgin in 2007 as Interim Fire Chief for a 90-day period and was later appointed to Fire Chief after a search committee selected him to return.
“I’ve enjoyed working with all of the professionals at the Elgin Fire Department,” said Henrici. “I am leaving the Department at a time when things are running smoothly, labor and management relationships are good, and the Department is moving forward.”
With Henrici’s departure, the needs of the Fire Department will be assessed and a new Chief will be sought. The Elgin Fire Department is a department of the City of Elgin and is committed to the safety and welfare of all its residents. It employs more than 130 firefighters and emergency medical services personnel to best serve the Elgin community.
