The International Latino Cultural Center (ILCC) in partnership with the City of Elgin, is proud to present another edition of CINE EN EL PARQUE / FILM IN THE PARK 2010 summer series on Wednesday, August 25, in Festival Park, 136 South Grove Avenue is downtown Elgin. The film will be shown at dusk, with preshow activities beginning at 7:00 p.m., including a live performance by Ballet Folklorico Huehuecoyotl. The CINE EN EL PARQUE / FILM IN THE PARK series will also provide games, raffles, giveaways and long distance phone calls to anywhere in the world courtesy of Verizon Wireless– FREE of charge!
The feature film, entitled Un Lugar Lejano/A Distant Place, was filmed in Argentina-Venezuela and Spain. Julian, a famous photographer, has just turned 40 and is resigned to the sadness and loneliness of his insular life. When diagnosed with terminal cancer hope recedes even further from him. After dreaming of a photo he has never taken, Julian sets off on a journey to find the image in the photo. The CINE EN EL PARQUE / FILM IN THE PARK series offers free screenings of family-friendly films in neighborhood parks across the city of Chicago and suburban area throughout the summer. All films are shown in their original language (with English subtitles) and are special selections from the spectacular line-up of films presented during the 26th Chicago Latino Film Festival.
In continuing the mission of the ILCC, this year CINE EN EL PARQUE / FILM IN THE PARK offers a unique opportunity for Latinos and non–Latinos to partake in cross-cultural experiences, through Spanish-language films (with English subtitles) from Colombia, Cuba, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. Families are invited to enjoy these films in a picnic–style environment, free of charge.
“The park series is designed to make it easier for families to enjoy the richness of our cultural diversity which fosters understanding and a sense of pride among the viewers. It depicts various topics ranging from immigration, faith, loss, integrity, traditions and family values, all in all, life’s intricacies” said Pepe Vargas, Founder and Executive Director of the ILCC.
