[ARCHIVED] City Accepting Applications to Serve on Lords Park Advisory Committee

The City of Elgin is now accepting applications through May 12 to serve on its newly created Lords Park Advisory Committee.

“I believe that a more holistic approach to planning the future of Lords Park is a better approach,” said Elgin Councilman Mike Warren when recommending that the Committee be formed. “I believe that expanding the focus to Lords Park in its entirety will help bring more resources to the solution.”

Friends of Lords Park Zoo has been working for more than a year on zoo preservation but has not submitted a plan to the Council for consideration explained Warren.

“The group has been working solely on saving the zoo, but I think Lords Park plays in the vitality of our entire community,” said Warren. “I want to be certain a comprehensive plan is developed that will allow the City to support the community-wide efforts to sustain Lords Park to its fullest potential – not just that of the zoo.”

Residents interested in serving on the City of Elgin’s new Lords Park Advisory Committee can download an application. Applications can then be mailed to Elgin’s City Clerk at 150 Dexter Court, Elgin IL 60120. Residents can also fill the form out online and submit it directly to the City Clerk.

The Council will follow the rules and regulations governing the creation of boards and commissions. As such, the Council will consider applications during executive session at its next Council meeting on Wednesday, May 12. The Committee will consist of no more than 10 interested and qualified residents.

“I’d like one representative from each of the Lords Park stakeholder groups to serve on the committee,” said Warren. “I’d like someone from the museum, the zoo, the baseball organization, the Church and other key groups to participate.”
