[ARCHIVED] The Centre of Elgin's Day Off School Events

School’s out Monday, February 15th and the City of Elgin Parks and Recreation Department has a perfect alternative to television!

Adventure Island opens at 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. Gold, Bronze, and Junior members will receive entrance as part of their membership. Resident prices for admission are $6 for children and $7 for adults. Non-resident prices are $7 for children and $8 for adults. At certain times throughout the day, portions of the pool may be closed for existing programs.

Kids Day Off offers a full-day of supervised activities for children. Games, sports, crafts, rock climbing and swimming fills the day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for grades K-6. Bring your lunch, snacks, swimsuit and towel for a great day of fun. This program requires registration by Monday, Feb. 8. Fees are $38 for residents of Elgin and $42 for non-residents.

The climbing wall will be open from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Resident prices are $5 for youth and $7 for adult. Non-resident prices are $7 for youth and $9 for adult that includes climbing equipment and three climbs.

Open Gym will be available from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Resident prices for admission are $5 for children and $8 for adults. Non-resident prices are $7 for children and $10 for adults. IDs will be required for admission for all patrons.

The Teen Center will also be open from 1 to 5 p.m. for all 9 – 15 year olds. Admission fees are $2 for residents and $3 for non-residents teens ages 9-15.

School’s Out Clay Day! This one-day workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. introduces children ages 7-14 yr. old to a new hobby and lets them create their very own works of art. Resident price is $25 and non-resident price is $30. All clay, glaze and firing are included. Bring a sack lunch and since clay can be messy, please dress appropriately.

City Skate, Elgin’s outdoor ice rink located behind City Hall will be open 12-8pm. Ice skating is free; ice skate rental is $4 with shoes and ID. This will be the last day City Skate will be open this season.

Want more bang for your buck?? The Centre also offers Kids Day Off School for everyone 8 years and up from 1 – 5 p.m. Enjoy use of Adventure Island, the Rock Wall, open gym and the teen center all for one fee! Resident fee is $8 and non-resident fee is $10. Those wishing to climb the rock wall must have a waiver signed by their parent/guardian, with a new waiver required each year.
