[ARCHIVED] City of Elgin Not Affiliated with American Water Resources

Elgin residents received a solicitation letter recently from American Water Resources encouraging them to purchase an insurance policy should their water line break. The City of Elgin is not affiliated with the organization.

“The letter suggests that as a valued water customer, they should consider the American Water Resources insurance policy,” said Elgin’s Water System Superintendent Kyla Jacobsen. “While the City provides residents with water service, in no way does the City of Elgin endorse this company.”

Residents are responsible for repairing water line breaks that are beyond a shut-off valve in front of their homes.

“But such breaks are fairly infrequent,” said Jacobsen. “It’s not something that happens a lot.”

Residents can check with their homeowner’s insurance company to determine what would be covered should there be a water line break.
