[ARCHIVED] Elgin Public Works Clearing Snow

Elgin Public Works crews continue to work to clear snow late this afternoon after an unpredicted 10-inches fell in the City within the last 12 hours.

“Snow is expected to end by early evening,” said David Lawry, General Services Group Director. “Crews will work through the night to ensure everything is cleared by early morning tomorrow.”

Forecasters predicted between 1 to 3-inches overnight on Christmas, however, more than 10-inches have fallen since early this morning.

“With the holiday, many people simply stayed home and off the roads,” said Lawry. “There were a few traffic accidents with minor injuries, however."

City crews will plow more than 325 center lane miles between 5 p.m. tonight and 7 a.m. tomorrow morning.
