Residents are invited to attend an open house to discuss construction in the area of South, Cresent, Van and Vine Streets on Thursday, June 18 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Fire Station Number 6, 707 West Chicago Street.
Massive construction in the area has started and will continue over the next several months, with new underground utilities being added.
“Historically, underground work is very slow and tedious,” said Joe Evers, Elgin’s Engineer responsible for the project. “The work can be full of surprises since City records don’t adequately reflect what exists within our older rights-of-way. Those records were simply not kept back in the 1800s when Elgin became a city.”
Once all of the underground work is completed, sidewalk repairs and replacement of curbs and pavement base will follow. The work is expected to be completed before winter.
