The Kimball Street Bridge remains closed as Elgin Public Works crews work to repair a water main break that happened underneath the Metra tracks at the intersection of Rt. 31 and Kimball Street Wednesday night.
The Kimball Street bridge was closed and snarled rush hour traffic on Wednesday. The Metra line was initially closed north of Chicago Street and Metra bused passengers from Chicago Street to Big Timber. Full service was restored and there are no reports of disruption this morning.
While the break may have caused an initial dip in water pressure to some area homes, the impact on residents was minimal. Public works crews quickly isolated the affected water main and shut off service. Elgin’s Water Department rerouted the water mains to restore water pressure to area.
There is no public order to boil water.
