[ARCHIVED] Kimball Street Bridge Remains Closed This Morning

The Kimball Street Bridge remains closed as Elgin Public Works crews work to repair a water main break that happened underneath the Metra tracks at the intersection of Rt. 31 and Kimball Street Wednesday night.

The Kimball Street bridge was closed and snarled rush hour traffic and the Metra line was closed north of the Chicago Street stop on Wednesday. Metra bused passengers from Chicago Street to Big Timber and from Big Timber to Chicago Street, however, full service has been restored. There were no reports of disruption this morning.

While there may have been an initial dip in water pressure to some area homes, the impact on residents was minimal. Public works crews quickly isolated the affected water pipe and shut off service. Elgin’s Water Department rerouted the water mains to restore water pressure to area.

There is no public order to boil water.
