[ARCHIVED] Elgin's City Skate Now Open

Have free fun with the family this winter at City Skate, Elgin’s outdoor ice rink, now open for the season! City Skate is conveniently located on the Civic Center Plaza, between Hemmens Auditorium and City Hall. Free parking is available at The Centre Parking deck, or in the Civic Center parking lot at Douglas and Highland Avenue.

The ice rink is open and free to the public from 9:00a.m.-9:00 p.m. daily, with $4.00 ice skate rental available with identification and during warming shelter hours only. Warming shelter hours are Monday through Friday, 4:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., Saturdays 12:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. and Sundays 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. During School District U-46 days off and holiday breaks, the warming shelter hours will be extended to 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The ice rink does close occasionally for private events and ice skating lessons. Please call the information line at 847-931-6140 or visit for updates on hours and ice conditions.
