The Elgin Police Department is now accepting applications for its FALL 2008 CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY. The purpose of the Citizen’s Police Academy, is to build a better understanding between our citizens and the police department through education. The Citizen’s Police Academy will be held at the Elgin Police Department in the Training Room, beginning Wednesday, September 17th through November 19th, 2008, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Classes are held every Wednesday and consist of informative presentations and hands on experiences. Topics covered during the 9-week session include:
An Overview and Tour of the Police Department,
Patrol Division,
Arrest, Search & Seizure,
Traffic laws/DUI,
Tactical Response Team,
K-9,
Gang and Drug Investigations,
9-1-1 Communications,
Shooting on the Department’s shoot/don’t shoot Cintronics system,
Processing a crime scene,
Observing a Mock Trial; and
more.
The Citizen’s Police Academy is offered free of charge. Requirements are that participants must be 18 years old, and a criminal background check will be conducted on each applicant; Elgin residents will get first priority for admission to the class.
