[ARCHIVED] Grand Opening Grant School Park

Celebrate the opening of one of Elgin’s newest parks, Grant School Park with your neighbors on Saturday July 26, 2008 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Neighbors on the near west side of Elgin and community residents are invited to a grand opening celebration. Improvements at Grant School Park include a new playground, a skate park, additional landscaping and a small shelter. The park is located on the old site of Grant School which was torn down a few years ago. It is located at the corner of Jackson and Lawrence Avenue, just west of the Fox River.

The community’s first skate park is being built by volunteers just in time for the grand opening. The unsupervised park will be open to skate boarders and inline skaters everyday from dawn until dusk. BMX bikers will be allowed to use the facilities on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the park is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. followed by a light lunch of hot dogs, chips and drinks served by the Elgin Community Network and the Grant Park Neighbors Association representatives. Neighbors are encouraged to partake in a game of bags, Frisbee golf, or ladder toss as part of the celebration.
