[ARCHIVED] Grand Opening of the Elgin Shores and Drake Field Parks

Neighbors of Drake Field Park and community residents are invited to grand opening celebrations at both Drake Field Park on the City’s southeast side and at Elgin Shores Park, located just east of the Continental Little League fields off of Route 31.

Improvements at Drake Field Park include parking, a playground, and a picnic shelter. These amenities are expected to be welcomed by the youth football program that holds games at the existing football fields. The park is located on Hastings Street, just east of Route 25.

Improvements at Elgin Shores Park include a new public boat launch and fishing pier on the Fox River, a new playground, picnic shelter, batting cages and a paved parking lot. The City of Elgin leases this property from the Kane County Forest Preserve District. Elgin Shores Park is located just east of the Continental Little League fields off of Route 31, and just south of Route 20.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at Drake Field Park is scheduled for noon and will kick-off Unity Fest, which will run until 6pm with lots of different activities scheduled. At 2pm, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at Elgin Shores Park. Light refreshments will follow the ceremony at Elgin Shores.

These celebrations at Drake Field Park and Elgin Shores Park are two of eight such celebrations planned throughout the City this summer at new parks.
