Last Sunday’s electrical storm has delayed the season opening of the Wing Park Family Aquatic Center, 1030 Wing St.
The pool was scheduled to open this Saturday, May 31 but has been tentatively moved to Saturday, June 7, after an area transformer was struck by lightning over the Memorial Day weekend. The transformer then caused seven pumps at the pool to breakdown.
Swimmers can temporarily use outdoor pool passes at Adventure Island at The Centre, 100 Symphony Way and at Lords Park Family Aquatic Center, 325 Hiawatha Drive, until Wing Park’s pool opens. Outdoor pool passes are generally only accepted at the City’s two outdoor swimming facilities Wing Park and Lords Park Family Aquatic Centers.
Hours for Lords Park Family Aquatic Center are from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Weekday hours are from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 12 noon to 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hours for Adventure Island are from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on weekends and from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday hours are from 12 noon to 9 p.m.
Outdoor pool passes for the 2008 swimming season are currently on sale at the Centre’s main desk. Outdoor season passes are good at both Lords Park Family Aquatic Center and Wing Park Family Aquatic Center beginning May 31 – August 24. When outdoor facilities are closed because of inclement weather, outdoor season pass holders may use the Centre’s Adventure Island using an outdoor membership card.
