[ARCHIVED] Central Business District Construction Week of April 14

Phase II of the Central Business District’s $31.5 million Street Resurfacing and Streetscape Project is again underway as the City of Elgin works toward the revitalization of its downtown area. Phase II construction will include seven stages of resurfacing and street improvements on Chicago Street, South Grove Ave. and Spring Street between Highland and Chicago Streets through the end of October.

Water main work continues on Chicago Street during the week of April 14th. Installation of the new water main services to businesses and residents on the south side of Chicago Street between south Grove Avenue and Spring Street will continue as weather permits. One through lane of traffic will remain open in this area and parking will be prohibited on Chicago Street between Douglas and Spring Street during working hours.

Patrons wishing to access businesses on Chicago Street between Douglas and Spring Street are encouraged to use the Spring Street parking garage on the northeast corner of Spring Street and Chicago Street. Pedestrian access through and around the construction zone will be maintained.
Specific questions regarding the construction can be directed to Shelley Costello with TranSystems at 847-871-3185.
