Elgin’s special census will begin Friday, March 28 and is expected to continue through Wednesday, April 30 as census workers collect information from City residents that could bring Elgin additional state revenues.
Elgin has experienced much growth since the 2000 census when its population was determined to be nearly 95,000. With the addition of several new subdivisions on both the City’s east and west side, the City’s population is believed to have grown to nearly 107,000 residents over the last eight years.
Census workers will be in new growth areas asking residents such questions as name, age, gender, household size, ethnic background and whether a resident owns or rents a home. Workers will be working both weekdays and weekends from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
For more information, residents can contact Jan Ward, the City’s senior planner, at (847) 931-5911.
