[ARCHIVED] SPRING 2008 CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY

The Elgin Police Department is now accepting applications for its SPRING 2008 CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY. The purpose of the Citizen’s Police Academy is to build a better understanding between citizens and the Police Department through education. Classes are offered at no cost to our citizen’s and will be held in the Elgin Police Department Training Room, beginning Tuesday, April 1st through June 3rd, 2008, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Participants must be 18 years old. Elgin residents get first priority and a criminal background check will be conducted on each applicant. Application deadline is March 26, 2008.

During the 9-week session there will be classroom study along with practical exercises that include:

 An overview and tour of the Police Department,
 Criminal Offenses,
 Patrol Division,
 Traffic laws/DUI,
 Tactical Response Team,
 K-9,
 Gang and Drug Investigations,
 9-1-1 Communications,
 Shooting on the Department’s firing range,
 Processing a crime scene,
 Observing a Mock Trial
