Community members are invited to attend a meeting Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. at the Centre of Elgin’s Heritage Ballroom, 100 Symphony Way to address the possibility of creating affordable rental space for artists to both live and work in Elgin’s Center City area.
The meeting will be facilitated by Artspace, a Minneapolis-based not-for-profit organization that helps build and manage affordable rental space dedicated to people in the arts. Artspace is the nation’s leading non-profit real estate developer for the arts, with more than a dozen completed projects from coast to coast. The meeting will involve community leaders, area arts organizations, artists and other stakeholders.
“The City of Elgin is very committed to creating a strong arts community in the downtown area,” said Sylvia Grady, Elgin Arts Showcase coordinator and manager of the event. “We’re particularly interested in having artists, actors, musicians and writers attend the event to provide input.”
