[ARCHIVED] Bright Lights - Safe Nights

The United Way of Elgin Neighborhoods Matter Council, in partnership with the City of Elgin, is on a campaign to provide “Bright Lights and Safe Nights” to neighborhoods throughout the community. The campaign is designed to encourage everyone to “Take the Pledge” to keep their porch lights on from dusk to dawn. In exchange, residents will be given a free energy efficient light bulb, compliments of Commonwealth Edison.

Lynne Bosley, President of the United Way of Elgin has worked with the committee to identify impactful neighborhood projects. “We are very excited to partner with the City of Elgin and Commonwealth Edison to help our residents take an active role in making their neighborhoods safer while helping educate them on how to save energy at the same time.”

5,500 energy efficient light bulbs were donated by Commonwealth Edison for this effort. United Way and neighborhood volunteers will join City of Elgin ROPE officers to go door to door from 3 pm to 5 pm on Wednesday, October 24th in the three targeted ROPE neighborhoods, distributing free light bulbs and encouraging neighbors to take a proactive role in keeping their neighborhood safe. Residents will be asked to “Take the Pledge” to help make their neighborhoods safer by keeping their porch lights on from dusk to dawn each day.

The distribution of additional light bulbs will take place in the lobby of The Centre, 100 Symphony Way, on Thursday, October 25th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Any Elgin residents can "Take the Pledge" to keep their porch lights burning each night and receive a free energy efficient light bulb. “ We greatly appreciate the efforts of United Way and Commonwealth Edison in helping us brighten up our neighborhood streets. We hope our residents take advantage of this opportunity to make a positive impact in their neighborhoods” said City Manager Olufemi Folarin.
