[ARCHIVED] Construction Work Updates for Week of 9/24

During the week of September 24 work will continue work on StageV of the Central Business District Phase I, $22 million Streetscape Project with the installation of the new sidewalks. Parking will be prohibited in the construction area which includes the north side of Dupage Street between Villa Street and Spring Street and on the east side of Spring Street between Chicago Street and Dupage Street.

On Tuesday, September 25, Spring Street will be closed between Dupage Street and Fulton Street to allow storm sewer and electrical conduit crossings in the pavement. It is anticipated that the road will be re-opened before the afternoon rush hour.

In addition to work on the streetscaping, Phase II of the Streetscape Project will begin on Chicago Street between Riverside Drive and Center Street. Installation of the new water main will begin at Riverside Drive and continue eastward. The south lane of Chicago Street will be closed in the area where construction activity is taking place.

Motorists will be detoured around the construction areas. Parking is available in the Spring Street Parking Deck at Chicago and Spring Streets, in the Fulton Street Parking Deck, one block east of Spring Street on Fulton Street and in the Civic Center Lot on the north side of Highland Avenue from Douglas to Grove Avenues. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the construction operation.
