The World Wide Day of Play is associated with the Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Nearly 35 park and recreation agencies throughout the state are hosting “Day of Play” events on Saturday, September 29. This will be the first time Elgin Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the event. The important message is to get kids to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The event will take place at two locations, Lords Park and Wing Park from the hours of 11am until 2pm. There will be giveaways, relay contest, rally ball tennis demonstration (at Lords Park location only), and lots of information on keeping kids healthy and fit. Contests and activities are mainly for grade school through middle school age kids.
With childhood obesity rates at epidemic proportions, Illinois’ park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation and special recreation agencies are taking an aggressive approach to combat this health hazard.
We encourage all families and their children to come out and play with us! This event is FREE for everyone. For more information, please contact Kone Chansey at (847) 289-2689 or Chansey_k@cityofelgin.org.
