[ARCHIVED] CBD Work Continues Week of May 28

Work continues in Elgin’s Central Business District (CBD) as contract crews work to complete water main installation and pavement restoration in the area. NICOR crews are also scheduled to work in the CBD beginning Tuesday, May 29.

Road Closures/Detour Routes
Southbound Grove Avenue will be closed between Fulton and Prairie Streets on Tuesday, May 29 and again on Friday June 1.

Motorists wishing to access southbound Grove Avenue will be detoured east along Fulton Street to Villa Street, south on Villa to Prairie Street and west on Prairie Street to southbound Grove. No parking will be allowed on this section of South Grove Avenue.

On Tuesday, crews will be restoring pavement initially removed during the water main installation, and traffic will be directed around the construction by contractor personnel. Two-way traffic will be restored Tuesday evening, although traffic lanes will be shifted to the west side of the street. Motorists are asked to pay close attention to the new, temporary lane configuration.

On Friday, June 1, southbound Grove Avenue will again be closed as crews lay a new asphalt surface. Traffic will follow the same detour route established Tuesday. Two-way traffic will be restored by the end of Friday.

Free parking is available in the Spring Street Parking Deck at Chicago and Spring Streets and at the Fulton Street Parking Deck, one block east of Spring Street on Fulton Street. Pedestrian accessibility will be maintained throughout the construction operation.

Water Main Shut-Off
To connect the water main at DuPage Court and Spring Street, contractors will work evening hours on Wednesday, May 30 beginning at 7 p.m. weather permitting. To ensure proper connectivity, water service will be turned off in the area beginning at 10 p.m. Work will continue through 12 midnight when water service will be restored.

NICOR Work
NICOR is scheduled to replace several gas mains in locations throughout the CBD beginning Tuesday, May 29. Work is slated to begin on Chicago Street between north Spring and Center Street and will require lane closures throughout the project. The project is expected to be completed by the end of July.
