[ARCHIVED] Central Business District (CBD) Street Resurfacing and Streetscape Construction Begins

Downtown Elgin’s water main installation work continues as part of the Central Business District Street Resurfacing and Streetscape Project beginning the week of March 12, 2007. The work will concentrate on the South Grove Street area between Chicago Street and Spring Street as well as the area between Fulton and Prairie Street.

Here’s the forecast of the proposed work for the week of March 12 – 16, 2006. This, of course, assumes that the weather forecasted for next week does not change dramatically!

Monday, March 12 – South Grove Street will be closed between Chicago Street and Grove Street between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. to allow for storm sewer installation.

Tuesday, March 13 and Wednesday, March 14 – The installation of the new water main continues from the corner of South Grove and Spring Street across the Grove / Spring / Fulton intersection and continue south along Grove Street to Prairie Street. The water main will also be installed across Spring Street and to the east on Fulton Street. This work will be done overnight, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Flaggers will direct traffic around the construction activity at the intersection, and north and southbound traffic will be able to move along Grove Street between Prairie Street and Fulton and along Spring Street to the north. Access to the Fulton Street Garage will be available from Spring Street.

South Grove will be closed between Chicago and Spring Street, although access to the Union Bank drive-up will remain open. Motorists should use Spring Street to access Grove Street south of Fulton.

Thursday, March 15 and Friday, March 16 – Installation of the new water services on South Grove between DuPage Court and Spring Street will require closure of South Grove between DuPage Court and Spring Street. Local access from Chicago Street to DuPage Court will be allowed. People needing to access businesses between DuPage Court and Spring Street can use the Fulton Street garage for parking.

Friday, March 16 – Water main installation will continue on Grove Street between Fulton and Prairie. Parking in this block will not be allowed during working hours and traffic may be controlled with flaggers. Motorists are asked to use caution when traveling through this area and avoid the construction zone whenever possible.

Specific questions regarding the construction can be directed to Shelley Costello with TranSystems at 847-871-3185 or at her office in the back of the Downtown Neighborhood Association office at 2 North Douglas Street.
