[ARCHIVED] Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update

The City of Elgin’s Parks & Recreation Department has started laying the groundwork for updating the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The public is invited to attend input meetings at the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meetings on March 22 and April 26. Both meetings will be held in The Centre’s West Conference Room at 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the public meetings, the City will be organizing a community survey, user group meetings and focus group meetings. “A large part of the master planning process will be soliciting input from our residents as to what additions and improvements they would like to be seen made to our parks and recreation services,” commented Randy Reopelle, Parks and Recreation Director. Residents are encouraged to attend these meetings and share their ideas for improvements to the City’s parks, facilities and recreation programs.

The 2000 Park and Recreation Master Plan dealt mostly with parks and land use issues. In updating this plan for 2005 the City will increase the scope to also include recreational facilities such as The Centre, Hemmens, golf courses, Lords Park Pavilion and the pools. Recreation programs and services will also be evaluated as part of this process as the City continues to look for ways to improve and expand.
