[ARCHIVED] Get Counted in the 2020 Census!

Everybody Counts in the Elgin Census 2020

It’s 2020 and that means the Census is right around the corner. Here’s what you need to know:

Why is it so important that Elgin get an accurate count?

• Experts say that every person in Illinois who is counted represents $1,500 in funding from the Federal government every year.

• Some of the Federal Assistance Programs that receive funding based on the Census count include: Medicaid, SNAP, Section 8 Housing, National School Lunch Program, Head Start/Early Head Start and many more.

• The Census count in 2020 will affect the funding for programs in our community over the next 10 years.

• An accurate count also ensure accurate representation in Congress. We want to make sure our voices are heard.

Completing the Census 2020 form is Safe and Simple.

By law, the Census Bureau cannot share personal information with any federal, state and local agencies, including immigration agencies.

Ultimately, it’s all about counting every resident once, only once, and at the place they reside on April 1, 2020. Everyone will receive a postcard in the mail from March 12 – 20, 2020, inviting them to get counted in the Census. After receiving the postcard, individuals will be able to fill out a short and easy Census form online. There will be two other ways to provide Census information—by filling out a paper form or by phone. If you don’t respond, you will receive a couple more notices in the mail before door-to-door canvassing begins in late April.
