Mayor Kaptain's State of the City Address
Please join us for Mayor Kaptain's Annual "State of the City" Address to the Elgin Area Chamber on Thursday, December 5 at 7:30 a.m. As an exclusive event for the business community, Mayor Kaptain will celebrate Elgin's achievements while planting seeds for the future at the annual "State of the City" address. This event, hosted by the Elgin Area Chamber, is set for Thursday, December 5 at Elgin Community College. A breakfast buffet and networking opportunity begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by the presentation at 8:00 a.m. Tickets are available at elginchamber.com.
Giving Tuesday
ELGIN GIVES is a collaborative effort of community leaders in the greater Elgin area to bring the power of philanthropy’s biggest day, #GivingTuesday, home to Elgin. Giving Tuesday is a 24-hour fundraising event on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving that connects individuals with the causes that matter to them, and empowers donors to give to the local nonprofits that tackle our communities’ most critical issues. Celebrate Kwanzaa
The annual Kwanzaa celebration is Sunday, December 8 from 2-4 p.m. at the Gail Borden Public Library. Co-sponsored by the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission and Gail Borden Public Library, this event gets you ready for Kwanzaa! Learn all about the 7 principles of Kwanzaa, Nguzo Saba, with storytelling from Kucha and Baba Tony, music, dance, food and other family friendly activities. Learn more here.
Tree Lighting Ceremony
All are invited to the City of Elgin’s annual tree lighting ceremony at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, where Mayor Kaptain, members of City Council and Santa will turn on the holiday tree lights.

Winter Wonderland
Join the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin (DNA) on Saturday, December 7, from 2-6 p.m. in DuPage Court and surrounding downtown Elgin locations to celebrate the holiday season with holiday craft market, food trucks, live music and entertainment, carriage rides, live nativity and petting zoo, free kids activities, photos with Santa and more! 2019 December Heritage Awards
Please join the Elgin Heritage Commission and the Elgin History Museum for the annual December Heritage Plaque Awards on Tuesday, December 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the Elgin History Museum, located at 360 Park Street. The Commission will be awarding ten heritage plaques along with a short presentation on Solar Systems on Historic Structures presented by Elgin’s Historic Preservation Planner, Christen Sundquist. Elgin Police Department Winter Open House
The Elgin Police Department will be hosting its annual Winter Open House on Saturday, December 7 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be historic displays in our lobby, child fingerprinting, McGruff, information from our special divisions, facility tours, activities for kids, and a K9 demo. Winter Wear Collection Drive
Winter outerwear is being accepted for donation now through December 25, 2019 at all Elgin fire stations. Gently used coats and winter wear, collected on behalf of the Community Crisis Center, will be distributed to men, women and children at no cost throughout the cold weather season. This year, the Community Crisis Center has a high demand for adult coats, especially larger sizes. Other items accepted include gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, boots & snow pants. Learn more here.
Let's Taco 'Bout the Budget
“Budget On-the-Go” is series of informal meetings where you can hear from City staff, tell us what’s important to you and ask questions about how Elgin invests its money each year. On December 3, "Let's Taco 'Bout the Budget" will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Haight. Come share your priorities for the upcoming budget, and enjoy some free tacos. Learn more here.
