Discover the Cat in the Hat and many more of your favorite cherished characters as Elgin Summer Theatre returns to the Hemmens Cultural Center to bring Dr. Seuss’ zany imagination to life this in the much-loved musical Seussical! One of the most performed shows in America, Seussicaltells a story of the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

Since 1973, EST has taken the stage at the Hemmens Cultural Center most summers. Having presented delightful and entertaining shows such as Grease, Annie, and The 25thAnnual Putnam County Spelling Bee, EST also tackles shows with depth and meaning including Rentand Next to Normal. In an effort to continue expanding Elgin’s artistic impact, this year EST is partnering with the Up and Coming Theatre Company (UAC).

The cast will feature local actors from Elgin and surrounding areas and is directed by Jess Fiene. Currently working as a director with Northbrook Park District, Jess was the assistant director for UAC’s 2018 summer show School of Rock, which was a Broadway World Chicago award nominee. Jess graduated from Columbia College with a BA in acting and has worked with several area theater companies including Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Urban Gateways, and Redmoon Theater.

UAC’s commitment to creating diverse, thought-provoking works and professional level performances paired with EST and the beautiful Hemmens Cultural Center promises to result in a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza!

Show times are 7:30pm July 12, 13, 19 and 20 with 3:00pm Matinees on July 14 and 21.

$20 reserved seating in advance, $25 at the door. Students/Seniors $15 with valid student/school i.d. Group rates are also available. Tickets may be purchased at The Hemmens Box Office, by phone at 847- 931-5900 or by going to www.hemmens.org.
