[ARCHIVED] Applications for City Grants Programs

Applications for the 2007 Historic Architectural Rehabilitation Grant Program are now available at the City of Elgin’s Planning and Neighborhood Services Department, 150 Dexter Ct, Elgin. Since the inception of the grant program in 1995, the City has awarded 238 grants, which has assisted property owners with the completion of over $4.5 million dollars in rehabilitation projects.

The Historic Architectural Rehabilitation Grant Program provides property owners of residential structures in the locally designated historic districts reimbursement grants up to $10,000 for the restoration of exterior architectural features. Pre-application meetings are recommended to be scheduled by interested applicants. While this is not a requirement, the City would like to provide assistance and answer questions regarding your application, supporting documentation and type of work proposed.

The following grants are available:
1. 50/50 Program
• Reimbursement: 50% up to $10,000 maximum
• Minimum total project cost to qualify: $5,000
• Project completion time: 18 months
• Submission deadline: February 2, 2007


2. 75/25 Program*
• Reimbursement: 75% up to $10,000 maximum
• Minimum total Project cost to qualify: $2,500
• Project completion time: 18 months
3. Exterior Paint Program*
• Initial 100% grant of $2,500
• Remaining cost reimbursed at 75% up to $10,000 maximum
• Paint colors are subject to review

* The 75/25 and Exterior Paint Programs are targeted for low to moderate income property owners. The funding is available beginning January 2, 2007, for a period of 9 months or until funding runs out. Please call (847) 931-5924 to verify if you qualify for assistance.
