[ARCHIVED] 2007 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award Nominations Forms

In a time of war, the Elgin Human Relations Commission and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee is asking residents to find inspiration in a man known for his teaching of peace.

Now through December 15, 2006 the Commission will accept nominations for it annual Humanitarian Award, established in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The awards are only part of the program with the Commission presenting the awards in January as part of the King Holiday Celebrations. Humanitarian Awards are given in categories of housing, civil rights advocacy, education, business and industry, religion and community relations. Scholarship awards are also presented to deserving high school seniors continuing their education along with The Art & Essay Contest being awarded during the January Celebration.

The holiday celebrations include the annual prayer breakfast January 13, 2007 at Elgin Community College. Tickets ($10) for the breakfast and award forms are available at City Hall, 150 Dexter Ct. or go to online forms in Human Resources to download.

At 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2007 the King commemoration shifts to the Hemmens. The Hemmen's King Celebration is FREE and open to the public. The 2007 theme: Remember! Celebrate! Act! "In The Spirit of Unity & Service".
