The City of Elgin Parks and Recreation Department and The Elgin Courier News are teaming up to present the 1st Annual Recreation Youth Scholarship Challenge on Friday, November 10th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. This fun filled premier event will provide a great opportunity for friends and co-workers to have fun as a team, while providing financial support for a very worthwhile Elgin cause.
This event will be a night of entertainment and competition. Great food and a cash bar will be available! Teams will participate in 12 events: ping pong, billards, pie eating, jello snarff, 2-ball B-ball, bean bags, obstacle course, walleyball, trivia, track relay, raft relay and tug of war.
The Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 to provide financial assistance to young people in Elgin whose families could not afford to register them for recreational programs. Currently the Youth Scholarship Fund is supported by the Fox Trot, which typically raises $25,000 per year for the scholarships. However, these funds are usually exhausted halfway through the year and as a result many children are turned away when they come to apply for recreational program scholarships. The goal of the Youth Scholarship Challenge is to raise sufficient funds so no youth scholarship request is denied.
Submit your registration as soon as possible! Cost for registration is $350 per team, deadline to register is October 10th. This event is a great opportunity for employee groups or civic organizations to have an affordable activity together, knowing that the money will go to a very worthwhile cause and have a positive impact on local youth.
