The Elgin Fire Department has teamed up with several community faith based organizations in an effort to collect food and goods in support of the 2015 Martin Luther King food drive. Our goal for 2015 is to exceed 6 tons (12,000 lbs) of food and household goods which will be donated to Food for Greater Elgin, All People’s Interfaith Food Pantry, Centro de Informacion, Community Crisis Center, Elgin Salvation Army and Westside Church of Christ.
In fact, we really believe we can collect 7 tons, 14,000 lbs.!!! Our goal is to carry on the legacy and dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King by providing relief to families that may have fallen upon some hard times. No family should ever go hungry or experience life without basic household necessities. There are families in need of the very things that some of us may take for granted on a day to day basis.
All Elgin Fire Department stations have collection boxes and will be accepting non-perishable donations beginning Friday, January 2, 2015. The Fire Station drop off locations will accept donations until Saturday, January 17th. Please take the time to make a donation and come visit our Fire Stations. We are proud to be a part of this community and we’re thankful for the opportunity to serve the community while honoring the memory of Dr. King.
