[ARCHIVED] EPD to Host Retirement, Promotion and Swearing-in Ceremony on 12/30/14 at 3:00 pm @ The Centre

The Elgin Police Department will host a retirement, promotion, and swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, December 30th, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at The Centre of Elgin's Heritage Ballroom, 100 Symphony Way.

The community is invited to join us in thanking Commander Glenn Theriault for his many years of dedicated service to Elgin as he retires to take a position as the Chief of Police of Sycamore, IL. Additionally, three promotions will occur, and eight new officers will be sworn-in.

Retiring Commander Theriault will be recognized for his 20 years on the force. First hired in 1995, Theriault served in patrol, juvenile investigations, and as a ROPE officer. He was promoted to sergeant in 2003, lieutenant in 2008, and commander in 2012. During this time he served in patrol, ROPE, traffic, adjudication, and as an assistant to the chief. He has received numerous awards inclusive of the manager of the year in 2010, manager of the quarter, unit citation, distinguished service and received 30 letters of appreciation.

As Commander Theriault retires, Lieutenant Colin Fleury will be promoted to the rank of commander. Fleury was hired in 1999 and during his career has served in patrol, the gang unit, traffic, and as a member of the Tactical Response Team.

With Fleury's promotion, Sergeant Adam Schuessler will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Schuessler was hired in 1996 and during his career served in patrol, major investigations, communications, as a ROPE officer and a member of the Tactical Response Team.

With Schuessler's promotion, Officer David Lesko will be promoted to the rank of sergeant. Lesko was hired in 1997 and during his career served in patrol and juvenile investigations.

The department will also be swearing-in eight individuals to the rank of police officer, who will become the newest members of the department. This event is open to the public and all are invited to attend as we wish all of our officers the best as they enter into new phases of their respective careers. At the conclusion of the ceremony, refreshments will be served.
