The Elgin Fire Department is proud to announce that on Friday, August 15th we will be promoting lieutenant Dan Rink to the rank of captain and firefighter Dave Gartrell to the rank of lieutenant.
Lieutenant Dan Rink has served the city of Elgin for 18 years and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant nine years ago. He has been heavily involved in many projects and assignments during his career and will be a valuable part of the administrative team.
Firefighter Dave Gartrell has served the city of Elgin for twelve years and has been a respected and dependable driver/engineer in District 1 for the last three years. Dave has also been used extensively as an acting lieutenant during this past year, which will serve him well as he joins the department's leadership team.
These promotions will be made to fill vacancies created by the retirement of Captain Ken Nelson. Captain Nelson served the city of Elgin for 21 years, being promoted to lieutenant in 2002 and achieving the rank of captain in 2011. We wish him a happy and healthy retirement and thank him for his years of dedicated service.
The promotion ceremony will be held on Friday, August 15th at the Heritage Ballroom in the Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way, and will begin at 3:00 p.m. If your schedule allows, please plan on joining us to congratulate these gentlemen on this milestone day in their lives and careers.
