Parking restrictions will be in effect from July 3 through July 4 to accommodate Elgin's Fourth of July activities.
The city encourages drivers to plan accordingly for disruptions in traffic and parking, and adhere to posted restrictions. City staff and volunteers will be located throughout downtown and available to answer questions from the public.
Morning Street Closures
The 2014 Fourth of July Parade will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Douglas Avenue from Slade Avenue to Highland Avenue.
The following streets will be closed to vehicle traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Kimball St. from Dundee Ave. to N. Grove Ave.
Douglas Ave. from River Bluff Rd. to E. Chicago St.
Highland Ave. from Spring St. to N. Grove Ave.
Symphony Way from Douglas Ave. to Spring St.
No parking is allowed after 6:00 a.m. in the parade staging area and on the parade route. Vehicles parked in these areas will be towed.
Evening Street Closures
The Grand Victoria Casino and the city of Elgin are hosting a concert and fireworks in Festival Park, starting at 5:00 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.
The following streets will close to vehicle traffic to accommodate the events.
2 p.m.-12 a.m: S. Grove Ave. from Prairie St. to Lake St.
9 p.m.-10 p.m.: National St. from Villa to Rt. 31, including the bridge, and Riverside Drive from Chicago Ave. to Prairie St.
Parking
Free parking is available at public lots and parking decks. Free maps are available throughout downtown for residents and visitors.
Parking for persons with disabilities who have a valid disability placard is available on the north side of Lake Street.
